Neurotoxin
What do neurotoxin injections do?
Neurotoxin injections are a cosmetic procedure that uses the botulinum toxin to block the nerve signals that make muscles contract and move. It allows the skin and muscles in the affected area to relax, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They aren’t called wrinkle relaxers for nothing!
Besides dealing with wrinkles, neurotoxin injections have also been used to treat tense and overactive muscles. People use these treatments for temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), chronic migraines, muscle spasms, and neck pain.
You can book your Botox or Xeomin neurotoxin treatment with Kala Beauty today!
What is a Botox Injection?
Botox is a brand of neurotoxin treatment by Allergan. The injectable medication is used to relax muscle activity. Its most common use is to reduce the appearance and resurgence of wrinkles. The common areas for treatment include the creases in the glabellar region, the corners of the eyes, and the forehead.
What is a Xeomin Injection?
Xeomin is a brand of neurotoxin treatment by Merz. Like Botox, the medication is a treatment derived from botulinum toxin and is injected into muscles to decrease activity. Its most common use is to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It’s typically used in the glabellar region, the corners of the eyes, and the forehead.
What is the best neurotoxin treatment for you?
Botox, Xeomin, Dysport, and Daxxify are all made from the same neurotoxin, botulinum toxin, but each one comes with different formulations so their effects vary. You have to consider the area you want to treat, your desired end goal, and your budget. And like all things, you have to consider how you will react to the treatment.
Here’s a quick brief about the different types of cosmetic neurotoxin injections:
- Botox – Since it’s the first of its kind, Botox is a well-known cosmetic treatment and remains to be a client favorite. With Botox injections, you gradually get the full wrinkle-free effect. There will be minor signs of improvement after 2 to 4 days. For full results, wait until 10 to 14 days. A Botox treatment will last you anywhere from 3 to 6 months before the effects wear off and you need to top-up.
- Xeomin – Xeomin has been a popular alternative for those who are tired of the same injectables. Its single-ingredient formula is perfect for those who have developed a tolerance to Botox or who suffer allergic reactions from their protein casings. It is on the slow side when it comes to results. It could take up to 4 days until you see results and it fully sets 2 weeks later. A Xeomin injectable will last you anywhere from 3 to 4 months.
Our medical professionals can help you get a better idea about what’s the best neurotoxin injection for you. They will walk you through the pros and cons of each product and recommend one that suits your needs and lifestyle.

Botox-aftercare–what do you do?
After you receive a neurotoxin injectable, here are some aftercare instructions so you can reduce bruising and get the best results:
- No lying down – During the first 4 hours, you want to avoid activities that might spread the toxin outside the treated area. So while you should kick back and relax, make sure you do it in an upright position.
- Avoid touching the injection sites – For the first 4 hours keep your hands off the treated area.
- No exercise – Try to maintain a steady heart rate, increase in blood pressure may lead to bruising. Avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least 3 to 4 hours after your treatment.
- Don’t get additional treatments – For 24 hours after your neurotoxin injection, avoid things like facials, massages, and similar anti-aging treatments. They may reduce the effectiveness of your injectable.
- Avoid heat – When you are fresh from your treatment avoid activities that make you warmer than usual. The heat may promote bruising. That means no sun, saunas, hot tubs, baths, tanning beds, and hot yoga for at least 48 hours.
- Avoid alcohol – Like heat, alcohol increases the risk of bruising. Avoid consuming it before and after your treatment.
- Watch your medication – Neurotoxins don’t always play nicely with other medications. If you have regular maintenance meds, consult your doctor first about whether it’s safe to consume with your neurotoxin treatment.

Dermal Filler
What is a dermal filler?
Dermal filler injections are a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment that helps with volume loss. A medical professional injects the fillers into the desired area to plump and “fill” the loss. Dermal fillers are temporary and require regular visits if you want to maintain the results.
There are different types of dermal filler available on the market–hyaluronic acid, poly-L lactic acid, CaHA, PMMA, the list goes on. While the ingredients differ, they have one thing in common. They are all biodegradable and have minimal side effects.
Kala Beauty offers hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. These are all FDA-approved and are considered safer than surgical enhancements.
What is Belotero dermal filler?
Belotero is a brand of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler. HA is a naturally occurring substance that our bodies use as a cushion and lubricant. As a dermal filler, it plumps the treated area and smoothes fine lines as wrinkles.
Belotero is a low-density injectable which makes it more suitable for filling in finer lines and wrinkles. You should see results immediately, but it will take a couple of weeks before you get the final results.
The brand has several products that include: Belotero Balance, Belotero Basic, Belotero Soft, Belotero Intense, and Belotero Volume.
What is Juvederm dermal filler?
Juvederm is a brand of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler. As an HA dermal filler, it does the same job as Belotero. It can be used to smoothen wrinkles and fine lines, fill volume loss, and augment facial features.
Juvederm has a higher density formulation which makes it more suitable for deep and severe wrinkles and folds. Since it’s typically used to treat more severe areas, the injections are much deeper. You should see results immediately, but it may look overfilled for the first few days. Over time the filler will settle and you can see the final results.
The brand’s products include Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Volbella XC, Juvederm XC, Juvederm Vollure XC, and Juvederm Voluma XC.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance. In humans, you can find it in your eyes, joints, and skin. Its main job is to lubricate and hydrate. In the skin, HA helps the skin stay supple and flexible. When your skin is well-hydrated, you are less likely to produce wrinkles and fine lines. Given these benefits, HA is a popular ingredient in skincare and cosmetic treatments.
Is treatment with Juvederm/ Belotero injectable painful?
That would depend on the desired treatment, injection location, and personal pain tolerance levels. You may experience mild discomfort during the injection. If you don’t react well to needles, you can ask the medical professional to anesthetize the treatment area first.
What are the side effects of dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers have minimal side effects. You may experience bruising, redness, itchiness, and swelling at the beginning, but these will calm down in a matter of days and weeks. Severe complications are exclusive to the permanent filler or excessive filler use. If you overly depend on filler, you may notice facial asymmetry, acne, and filler clumps. To avoid side effects, follow the recommendation of your medical professional and follow the aftercare instructions.
Are dermal fillers worth it?
That may vary depending on the person. If you:
- Have a job that depends on maintaining your appearance
- Enjoy looking your best
- Want to address a long-time insecurity with volume loss and wrinkles
Dermal fillers are a great solution and definitely worth it. They are temporary, affordable, and far more accessible than plastic surgery.
What dermal fillers should I get?
That would depend on your budget and what you want to achieve. There are different types of dermal fillers and they all have their pros and cons. If you are on the fence, you can consult our in-house medical professional to better understand what different fillers can offer you.
How long does dermal filler treatment take?
The duration of the injection process depends on what you want to achieve. It could take at least 15 minutes to do and about 4 weeks until the dermal filler settles down. For more accurate timelines, consult your medical professional.
Does the dermal filler correction last forever?
No. Any corrections or changes are temporary. Your body will break down the filler. If you want to maintain the results, touch-ups are required.
How long do dermal fillers really last?
There are temporary and semi-permanent fillers available on the market. The temporary ones could last from 6 to 12 months. While the semi-permanent ones could last from 2 to 5 years. Your metabolism and activity could also affect the longevity of your dermal filler. Consult your medical professional to get a more accurate timeline.
Do fillers ever go away?
Yes! They do. They break down faster in the active areas of your face. For most people that means around your eyes and mouth.
Dermal filler aftercare?
Dermal fillers take a while to heal and settle down. You won’t see the final results of your treatment until weeks later. To ensure you don’t prolong the healing stage or ruin the treatment, follow these dermal filler aftercare instructions:
- No alcohol – Do not drink alcohol before or after your treatment. It may lead to bruising.
- No intense heat – Avoid the sun, hot tubs, and the like. The increase in blood pressure may lead to bruising and redness.
- No strenuous activity – Avoid strenuous activities like exercise for the first 24 hours. The change in blood pressure could lead to bruising and the movement can encourage the filler to shift.
- No additional pressure – After your treatment, do not apply pressure on the injected area for 3 to 5 days. If filler is on your face, try to sleep on your back instead of your side.
- No harsh skincare – Avoid using harsh skincare. Products with AHA, retinol, vitamin C, and glycolic acid should step aside for gentle cleansers and moisturizers for the first 24 hours.
- No makeup – After treatment, keep a bare face. Do not apply any oil-based makeup.
- No spa treatments – Facials, massages, and saunas are off-limits. It may cause redness and bruising.
- Stay hydrated – Support the healing process by staying well-hydrated and rested.
- Apply cool compress – Periodically apply a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes every couple of hours when you first get your treatment. It will help with the swelling and bruising. After 24 hours, you can stop. But if you still experience swelling, you can apply the cool compress on a need-basis.
- Take OTC medication as needed – The dermal filler pain varies depending on treatment location and natural tolerance. If you experience pain, you can take OTC medication like paracetamol. For more detailed instructions, consult your medical professional.
